I recently purchased a used 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee in excellent condition. While on vacation a month later in South Dakota I was unfortunately caught in a hailstorm. The only part of the car that was damaged was the hood with approximately 75 pea-sized dents due to the fact that it is aluminum rather than steel like the rest of the vehicle. The body shop I used on many occasions, recommended replacing the hood and insisted PDR was not an option as PDR could only be performed correctly on steel. The problem I have with that option is matching 4 year old metallic paint and it fading differently from the original paint.

I contacted two PDR companies and although they both said they could do the repair I just had trust issues with them. One said to drop off the hood and it would take approximately two weeks. The other looked at the car for a few minutes and said he would email a quote which I never received. After a week of calling him numerous times and still never receiving it I told him to just give me the quote over the phone. He told me he’d call me right back which never happened.

That’s when I contacted Al from Doctor of Dents. I spoke to him on the phone and made arrangements to meet him at his house even though it was an hour’s drive. After the first five minutes of meeting him I gained confidence that he could perform the work. His garage was immaculate with an epoxy floor and everything in its place. Granted, a clean garage is no indication of ones ability, but that coupled with his demeanor, his honesty and overall professionalism made him my choice for this repair. He examined the hood the whole time we spoke while I asked him questions regarding his experience, whether he did this part time etc. He has been in the business for years and this is all he does. He was very honest in stating that although he did not expect any problems that he couldn’t be sure as every dent is different and would not know if he could gain access to all the dents. After dropping the car off in the evening, it was completed the next morning. I could not believe the result. Expecting to see some remnants of a few dents there was absolutely no indication that the hood was ever damaged. Every angle I examined resulted in a smooth finish. I couldn’t have been more pleased. I now have a vehicle that has no damage with original paint and the price of the repair was a quarter of replacing the hood. I’ve had other minimal PDR repairs in the past (a few hail damage dents) but Al is virtually the best I’ve ever seen. Excellent repairs, great prices, honesty, and just an overall nice guy.
